Improved installation, less requirements

This is a post I’ve been itching to write for some time now. Today, I finally get the chance.

As it turns out, there are quite a few ways PHP is setup around the world. One ring to rule them all? Not even close. For many, Bildy installation didn’t go as smoothly as it supposed to. For some, it didn’t work at all. Great experiences don’t start like that, not even mediocre ones. This had to change.

So we went out and got hosting solutions around the globe: from big to small, popular to unknown. Instead of dealing with edge cases, we started to see patterns in the problems that came up. And so, we were able to create solutions that worked for many.

Initially, if you were using a high-end (read: high-cost) hosting solution, Bildy ran perfectly. This was not the case on cheaper solutions. Today I’m happy to announce that Bildy runs as smoothly on economy hosts as high-end hosts. It wasn’t easy, but that didn’t count. We want to give our developers great experience right from the start. This is the only thing that matters. That is our unshakeable goal.

We got Bildy to work on every single host we had. Along the way, we brought down the PHP requirement from 5.2.3 to 5.1.6. Small numbers, but enormous drop. Of course, the work isn’t done and we continue to test different setups and hosts.
